The start to the 2011 year has presented challenges, with the floods effecting 75% of Queensland and northern New South Wales bringing devastation and dire times to so many people. In these times our hearts, prayers and thoughts go out to the family and friends who have lost loved ones as we all pull together to help our neighbours effected by this natural disaster.

We are aware that some of our clients are unable to return home due to the flooding. Rental Property Assistance
If you have an investment property that has been effected by the recent flooding we encourage you to contact us as soon as possible to discuss the steps to take and possible options to assist your situation.

Many Australians experience tough times in their lives. It may be due to a natural disaster or times are financially difficult as an indirect result of a disaster. Experiencing difficulties related to losing a job, reduced income or a business downturn can be a daunting prospect for anyone.

ATO Flood Relief
If you are affected by a natural disaster the ATO will work with you to help you sort out your tax affairs when you are ready. The Australian Tax Office may be able to help by:

• Fast tracking refunds
• Giving you extra time to pay debts
• Giving you more time to meet activity statement, income tax and other lodgment obligations.

Centrelink Flood Relief
The Australian Government has authorised certain payments and services for people affected by recent severe weather and flooding events. The Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment (AGDRP) has been activated to assist people who have been adversely affected by the heavy rainfall, storm damage and associated flooding in the state of Queensland. Payments of $1,000 per adult and $400 per child will be made if you are eligible. Please click here to see if you are eligible for a payment.

The Disaster Income Recovery Subsidy has been activated to assist employees, small business persons, and farmers who have had a loss of income as a direct result of the recent flooding and severe weather. To view the payment rates and eligiblity critera please click here.

Bank's Flood Relief Assistance
Do you, or someone you know need emergency assistance and financial relief measures a result of the floods? The banks have put in place packages for customers who have been affected by the recent flooding in Queensland. If you need financial assistance or would like to know the key features that the major banks are providing please click here.

A courtesy reminder to all of our GST registered clients that the 2010 December quarter Business Activity Statement is due for lodging and payment by the 28th February.

If you have not yet done so, please forward your bookkeeping records to our office by post, in person or email for processing to ensure your compliance matters or any other issues arising from the recent floods are met in a timely manner.

Congratulations to Angela Williams, our senior accountant, who welcomed her gorgeous baby son, Brodie, into the world on 23rd December 2010.

He definitely kept us all waiting long enough, at a healthy 7lb 7oz and oh so cute we have decided to forgive him. Mum and bub are doing extremely well and we wish them all the best for the wonderful years ahead.

Angela will be returning to Accounting ONE to assist Averil and the team later in the year.
