With the Tax Season upon us and business getting busier, we welcomed two new staff members to the Accounting ONE team.

Angela Williams is our new senior accountant with over 10 years experience in the Accounting Industry. Angela is a Chartered Accountant and will be working closely alongside Averil and assisting her with predominately business clients.

Natasha Scott is our new school-based trainee who will be working 1 day a week to support Peta with administration.

*Entries for the October draw close at 5:00pm on 31 October 2010. Referred clients must book an appointment before this date. Each month's draw will be drawn on the first Friday of the following month. October's draw will be drawn on Friday, November 5th and the winner will be notified by phone. All surveys are strictly confidential and will only be used for training and improvement purposes.

Tax Return Lodgements Due
The Australian Taxation Office will soon launch campaigns stating that your Individual Tax Returns need to be lodged by the 31st of October. However as an added benefit of lodging through a Tax Agent, you can book an appointment in November without being penalised. Phone our friendly staff on (07) 5667 9483 to book in for an appointment at a time that is convenient for you.

Beware of Scams during Tax Time
The Tax Office is warning people to be aware of dodgy tax schemes and scams designed to steal your personal details and money. There are more and more sophisticated scams, designed to trick people into giving away personal details such as passwords, banking and credit card information. The ATO NEVER sends emails asking for personal information or credit card details. If you receive a suspicious email you can report it to the ATO by forwarding the entire email to ReportEmailFraud@ato.gov.au. Then delete the email.

ATO Processing Figures
Since 1 July 2010, the ATO has received over 6.35 million income tax returns and issued refunds worth more than $12.89 billion. So far, the ATO has identified over 19,000 returns worth more than $84 million which they believe to be potentially fraudulent or include overstated refund claims. Included within these returns is nearly $24 million in claims that are potentially related to identity crime.

Waiting on Your Refund?
Some returns take longer than others to process, for example if the ATO requires more information or they need to cross check information with Centrelink or the Child Support Agency. The ATO has apologised for the delays experienced during July and August due to the high volume of tax returns received. If you are still waiting, or are unhappy with the ATO's processing time, please contact the Australian Taxation Office on 1800 199 010.
