End of Financial Year Approaching

The end of the 2010 Financial Year is fast approaching, so to make tax time easier for you we have prepared a business checklist to assist you with collating relevant documents. Please note that this checklist is generic, and not all items may apply to your situation.

Please note that Payment Summary Annual Reports should be sent to the ATO by the 14th of August, 2010.

Important ATO Changes

The ATO have recently issued changes that may affect your business.

ATO e-Record will no longer be available from 1 July 2010

Payment Summaries must be provided to each of your employees by 14 July 2010

Payment Summary Annual Report must be sent to the ATO by 14 August 2010

Payment Summary now includes new fields for Reportable Employer Super Contributions, and also Deductible amount of the undeducted purchase price of an annuity.

2010-11 Budget Announcement

With the recent announcement of the 2010-11 Budget by Treasurer Mr Swan, we have identified key points that may affect your business in the coming years, including:

A cut in company tax rates from 30 per cent to 29 per cent effective in 2013/14, and dropping further to 28 per cent from 2014/15. Small businesses (with a turnover of less than $2 million) will receive this tax cut a year earlier than companies,

Small Businesses will also receive a tax write-off for assets up to $5,000 and will be allowed to depreciate all other assets, excluding buildings, in a single depreciation pool at a rate of 30 per cent,

The Superannuation guarantee levy for employees will be increased gradually from 9 per cent to 12 per cent starting from 2013/14, and
